I first encountered Rust several years ago when I was still living in Barcelona. It was introduced as part of a talk about WASM being given at a Javascript conference and I remember my initial thoughts were “Huh, pretty cool”.

Since then I’ve encountered Rust from time to time and even dabbled a bit myself but I never really had the need to pick it up properly.

That is until now.

I have things I want to do, and it seems that every useful library that will make those things easier to do these days are written in Rust.

So when I saw Advent of Code come across my feed I thought to myself “Fuck it, why not?”.
